By the wheel of a haul truck at a surface coal mine in Wyoming

I’m a climate and energy analyst with a decade of experience studying the energy transition and the industry’s effects on environments, workers, and political economies. I’m Associate Director at Global Energy Monitor (GEM).

I’m currently completing a book on the history of coal development in the Powder River Basin over the last half century. My work and commentary has appeared in the Washington Post, the Guardian, Financial Times, the Economist, TIME, Bloomberg, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Times of India, and elsewhere.

I hold a Ph.D. in History from Rutgers University. I grew up in coal country in the North East of England before moving to the United States.
